National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS)

Challenge:

National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS) required records management of documents in electronic, paper, and other formats that contain information related to chemical testing – from the nomination/selection process through the various phases of preliminary information gathering, such as study design, study evaluation and completion of all NTP testing and contracting.

Solution:

INDUS provided full lifecycle software development services for applications (ColdFusion, Java, PL/SQL) and databases including requirement gathering and analysis, quality assurance, configuration management, design and development, unit testing, integration testing, system testing, regression testing, and deployment.  INDUS receives correspondence and processes inquiries from the NTP scientists and the general public regarding NTP.  INDUS provides operational support on NIEHS Internet, Intranet, and Extranet.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Challenge:

EPA wanted to improve the public’s access to beach information on the EPA Beach webpage and meet Congressional requirements for more-timely provision of such data.  In its mission to protect human health and the environment, EPA strives to provide the public with access to accurate information sufficient to effectively participate in managing human health and environmental risks.

Solution:

INDUS revamped the legacy Beach Advisory and Closing On-Line Notification (BEACON) system into a modernized web-based tool called BEACON 2.0. With engaging interactive map and report tools, BEACON 2.0 allows users to locate beaches and obtain information such as beach advisories, closure notices, and water quality data.  The new system supports all types of users, from the general public to advanced users seeking analytical capabilities. Further, BEACON 2.0 helps EPA meet its goal of providing more timely information to the public by facilitating weekly, daily, and hourly updates (the previous system supported annual updates only).

The second phase of the modernization effort will include the development of a new web-based editing tool that will reduce the effort required by states, tribes and territories to submit and verify data.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Challenge:

EPA Office of Water (OW) PMO manages 51 systems in 4 diverse program offices with expanding programs and declining resources.

Solution:

INDUS developed a Portfolio Management Dashboard to assist the EPA OW PMO have across-the-board visibility into its programs.  INDUS developed a comprehensive standardized Portfolio, Program, Project Management, and Application Development Lifecycle System to track, manage, and provide visibility into each funded project. The tool is the primary project management and reporting tool for OW’s Project Managers.
